Erlenmeyer is an artist.

" It's Two Kids in a Trenchcoat!" opens with a preamble of two interlocking synth harmonies, a bass melody and a lightly swung drum break. This section comes to a head after a slight build up with additional elements peppered throughout. Here a musical flatline is established, which stands in contrast to the intro of the track.

Now the tempo has increased. A simple drum beat is accompanied by vibrato keys and an erratic bass guitar melody (so fast!). Other elements, such as clavinet stabs and off-kilter percussion, are introduced and now the track is festooned with amusements, like a funfair carousel. These are at once removed and the bass takes center stage among chord stabs. A transition is again reached.

But what happened? The artist was lazy and decided to pull the same trick twice (a callback to the transition between the preamble and the intro).

For the second part the bass guitar is abandoned completely, an element which at first seemed so germane to the track. The truth is, the artist was lost and decided to run with the initial plan of using a synth for the bass line. “A synth for the bass line”. Like an impostor which may only imitate the corporeal form of the original; rat smegma covered in potato skin.

More upbeat action follows. But this must come to an end. Now it’s Tonewheel Tony’s time to shine with rapid organ lines and glissandos. As the track comes to a close, it is safe to say that little thought was put into the ending, which drags out into a sonically confused ascending drone.
